Abstract: The project will address the use of zero-point modular fixtures as a reconfiguration enabler in FMSs. This class of equipment provides the capability of rapidly reconfiguring the pallets to match the production requirements, without the need of halting the system for a setup, thus providing a strategic tool to manage the joint evolution of products and processes.
The demo activity will cover the construction of a hardware prototype where a pallet can be rapidly reconfigured through zero‑point clamping systems and identified through a laser scanner. Given the pallet configuration, a software prototype will provide the associated machining process assembling together the part programs of the original components.
The demonstration activities will cover the validation of the two steps of the approaches, testing the capability of correcting identifying the pallet configuration and the capability of generating a feasible process plan through the simulation of the machining process.
