Abstract: The Zero Waste PCBs project has shown the potential for an industrial exploitation of a new sustainable and integrated demanufacturing process-chain for materials recovery from Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs). Business models have also indicated the economic potentials of this activity, provided that the degree of process optimization increases. One of the key enabling technologies supporting the implementation of this new process-chain was an advanced tool for shredding stage modelling, optimization and control. The aim of this project is to develop a market-attractive prototype of this tool, in which the user can optimize the shredding process parameters to obtain the desired dimensional distribution of the output particle mixture, as a function of the input mixture. The prototype will be composed of an on-line mixture analyser, of a shredding machine and of a mathematical algorithm that will quickly provide the best process paramenters for hitting a given target output mixture.
